DIY | IKEA Moppe Kids Book Storage - A collaboration with The Hairpin Leg Co

Our fifties home renovation is starting to take shape - more on that soon - and now that the living space is looking a little more 'finished', I thought it was time for Lily to have somewhere to keep her favourite books.

This project is a really simple way to get some stylish children's storage. I find so many children's products are brightly coloured or emblazoned with characters. I wanted something understated that would sit sympathetically in our living space as well as allow the beautiful book covers to shine.

I don't know about you, but I'm often looking at the IKEA website trying to figure out ingenious ways to re-purpose their products. The Moppe is made from birchwood ply - one of my favourite materials - and when turned on it's side - so the back becomes the base - it actually holds several books in 3 sections.

To bring the book bin up to Lily's height I needed some legs to attach to the base, so I contacted The Hairpin Leg CoI felt their products would be a great fit for my project as well as the style of our home. I chose a set of 4 legs in white. which fits in so well with our fifties renovation. I love the combination of the light plywood and clean, crisp white of the mid-century Eames-inspired legs.

We removed the Moppe drawers, repurposing them as drawer dividers in Lily's wardrobe. Then we measured the base of the unit and cut an additional piece of 12mm plywood to size (readily available at DIY stores). We cut this in half lengthways and glued it to the base of the frame to add rigidity and allow enough depth for the screws which would hold the legs in place.

Happily the hairpin legs sit perfectly flush with the base of the Moppe unit. Finally we added a set of The Hairpin Leg Co feet protectors - little rubber feet to protect our wooden floors from scratches.

Thank you so much to The Hairpin Leg Co for gifting us a set of their beautiful hairpin legs for this project.

VISIT | Wimpole Estate Walled Garden

The walled garden at Wimpole Estate is one of our very favourites to visit.

I love the promise of Spring and the glorious abandon of Summer, but I think Autumn is my favourite season. The deep, rich hues, accompanied by a slight chill in the air and the promise of long walks followed by toasty coffee or hot chocolate.

I've written about my love for this garden on the blog before, so I'll just go ahead and let the pictures do the talking.

OUR RENOVATION | Six Weeks - Lily's Bedroom

Lily's room doesn't look like this... yet! Image from Pinterest

We have been busy working on the house and started with Lily's bedroom.

When we moved in we knew the house would need a lot of work, but as is always the way with a renovation project, there have been inevitable unexpected jobs to do alongside our planned works.
