When we pruned the huge, old apple tree several months ago I was a little concerned we had pushed our luck. Despite my misgivings, over the past couple of weeks our tree has started to blossom… clusters of tiny white flowers, tinged with pink.
I'm so glad we'll see this apple tree in all it's glory this year. We moved into this house at the end of summer and weren't here to experience the blossom last year.
Through September and October, we were overwhelmed with fruit... the last photo shows some of the extraordinary bounty. I'm ashamed to say we only used a tiny portion of the apples this beautiful old tree produced. This year I'm hoping to be more organised and pick them as they become ripe, squirrelling them away in the shed for the winter months.

how lovely to inherit such a lovely old tree. Although our house is old, it seems the previous owners cut down the trees and most of the shrubs. The upside is that we had the opportunity to create a garden from scratch - but would have loved an old apple tree ......
ReplyDeleteI think apple is my favourite blossom. I have a crab-apple I can see from here in full flower and it's lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe gave our crabapple tree a big prune last year and surprisingly it looks like it has recovered pretty well. What are you going to do with all your apples?
ReplyDeletehow wonderful!! i am always hesitant to cut back also but then it seems like every flourishes even more after.
ReplyDeleteWow. So much in there! Imagine all the apple pies & jams you can do! So lush! #HDYGG
ReplyDeleteOurs isn't doing so well yet after the pruning. I'm hoping it will be ok and pick up the pace. I love our apple tree!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blooms, lots of bounty to come. I think it's almost impossible to stay on top of a good apple tree, last year every house here had a bucket of apples to giveaway at the bottom of the drive! This year, I want to be one of those people with too many apples!
ReplyDeleteoooo yes chutney central come Autumn! I do love apple blossom. We planted an apple tree here when we moved in and it's grown really well since - I love looking out of the window at it's blossom at the moment. It's only a little one though being so young, I'll be lucky to get 10 apples from it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in again - lovely lovely blossom!
Ah apple blossom is just delightful and delicate. Then you have wonderful apples later in the year. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThat blossom looks so pretty, and it's great that you'll have a fab apple haul later this year to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteSo So Pretty!!!... Ooo I love Real Fresh Apples! My auntie had a Apple Tree in her Garden and when i was younger we would often pick them and make apple pies, apple crumble even apple sauce YUM YUM #HDYGG
