KIDS | World Book Day

This is our first year taking part in World Book Day. Lily's pre-school actually celebrated it on Monday and it was so sweet to see all of the 3 and 4 year olds arriving in their costumes.

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson is one of our very favourites and we have been reading it together since Lily was very small. Lily can recite a lot of the story by heart. She loves the humour and we also love Axel Scheffler's illustrations. We're also big fans of the film of course!

So it was decided, Lily would be the little mouse. For the costume, I had hoped to find a brown dress to customise but had no luck finding one. In the end I used six A4 sheets of felt from Hobbycraft to create one myself. It fastens at the back with a tie.

For the ears, I covered an alice band with felt and used two layers of brown and pink felt to made the ear shapes, which I attached to the underside. I made the tail by cutting strips of pink felt, which I then rolled into a spiral, gradually tapering out towards the end.

Do your children take part in World Book Day? I'd love to know which characters they are dressing up as!
