STAY | Gwithian Beach Houses - Gwithian, Cornwall

We have stayed in the Gwithian area of Cornwall many times over the past few years. We return because the location is fantastic - so close to the sea, but also a perfect base from which to explore the far West of Cornwall.

Last month, we spent a glorious sun-bathed fortnight staying at one of the Gwithian Beach Houses; located on Gwithian sands, a small family-run chalet park of 30 individual wooden holiday homes.

The chalets are nestled next to the grassy sand dunes; just a stone's throw from three miles of beautiful sandy beaches, between Hayle and Godrevy Point.

We chose the bright and spacious Sunnyside as our base. This traditional two bedroom chalet offers open plan living and is simply furnished with modern facilities. We were greeted with tea, coffee, milk and a Cornish cream tea - so welcome after the long drive down.

The location is so peaceful, just perfect for families. The dunes offer a perfect excuse to explore the local nature and fauna - we awoke to the sound of bird song and watched rabbits bounce through the long grass.

The wooden deck enabled us to dine alfresco throughout the day. We enjoyed the first rays of sunshine while eating breakfast and the last of the day's warmth tending to the barbecue, with sand between our toes from our beach adventures.

As we were blessed with such good weather, we barely ventured further than Gwithian Beach; an expanse of golden sand just moments from the chalet. It can be reached via a walk over the sand dunes but with a little one in tow we opted for the National Trust car park above, which is free to members.

Gwithian is a perfect beach, even in the busy Summer months. Surfing, kayaking and paddle board lessons can be booked at the car park and there are plenty of rock pools to explore with younger children. In the evenings take a walk up through the fields and along the coast path, towards Godrevy Lighthouse. If you're lucky - and very quiet - you may find grey seals bathing in the one of the secret coves below.

Gwithian Beach is also where you'll find Godrevy Cafe, one of our favourite spots for a cooked breakfast. Sit on the upper outside deck, where you will be greeted with an uninterrupted view of the beach, sea and St. Ives bay beyond.

I'll be back with more from our Cornwall adventures shortly!

Disclosure: Thank you to Katy and Rick at Gwithian Beach Chalets, who kindly offered a discount as payment-in-kind for this feature. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
